Change Xbox One NAT type - how to play online again
You arranged to play online with friends and now Xbox One refuses to connect to the Internet? Annoying, but not unsolvable. For example, changing the Xbox One's NAT type can help.
How to fix a NAT error?
If there's something wrong with your NAT type, you won't hear friends in multiplayer games or won't be able to participate in online games in the first place. To fix the error, first check the NAT type you are currently using:- Open the Xbox One menu via the menu button on the controller.
- Select "Settings" and go to the "Network" sub-item.
- In the "Network Settings" section, you will see your "NAT Type" under the title "Current Network Status".
- If "Open NAT" is not displayed here, you can only participate in online mode in a limited way.
How to change the NAT type to "Open NAT"
To switch to an open NAT and thus be able to use all the features in online mode, release ports for the Xbox One and use a fixed IP address. This works as follows:- Go to the website of your router and log into your account.
- Enable "Universal Plug'n'Play" (UPnP)" in your router menu.
- In the settings of your router, open the ports that your Xbox One needs.
- Now assign a fixed IP address to your router.
- Open the "IP Settings" option in the network settings of the Xbox One, change the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) assignment to "manual" and enter the chosen IP address of your router.
- Save the settings and test the NAT type again.
