GIMP Measure angles - how to use the handy tool

GIMP is a free alternative to Adobe Photoshop. The image editing program offers the right feature for almost everyone. Besides just editing images, you also have the option to analyze them. With the measuring tool you can measure not only lengths but also angles in an image.

With this tool you can measure angles in GIMP

If you want to measure an angle within an image, there is a suitable tool in GIMP. You can use the Measure tool to determine the degrees of angles.
  1. Start GIMP and open the image in which you want to make the measurement.
  2. On the left side of the tool palette, call up the Measure tool by clicking on the compass icon. Alternatively, you can also use the key combination [Shift] and [M].
  3. Now click in the image at the point from which the angle is to be measured. The starting point is symbolized with an angle symbol.
  4. Then click on the target point of your measurement. For better visualization, a line is drawn between the two points. In addition, a horizontal line is displayed at the starting point for better orientation.

This is how you read out the measurement

In order to now also receive the data on the measured angle, you still have to make a setting in the tool options. To do this, activate the "Use info window" item in the tool options. If you now use the measuring tool again, the tool palette will be hidden during the measurement and an info window with the data of the measurement will be displayed instead.
