Playing Xbox One in pairs - this is how it works

If you want to play a game in pairs on your Xbox One, this works either in local multiplayer or via the Internet. There are a few things to keep in mind when doing so. For example, it is important that the game supports multiplayer or co-op.

Local multiplayer: how to play in pairs on Xbox One

To play together locally, you'll need a game that has multiplayer or co-op mode and another controller. Here's how to connect another controller to your Xbox:
  1. Start your Xbox One and connect your controller as usual.
  2. Now, to pair the second controller with the console, first turn it on. The Xbox button on the controller now flashes green, because there is still no connection to the console.
  3. Press the connection button on the Xbox. This can be found next to the drive drawer.
  4. Then press the connection button on the controller. You will find this next to the connector for the cable. If the Xbox button now flashes a few times quickly and then lights up permanently, the pairing has worked.
If the second controller is connected, you can start playing.

Play online with friends

In addition to local multiplayer, you can also play online with your friends. However, this requires that the game supports multiplayer or co-op, as well as a paid Xbox Live Gold membership. A Gold membership costs 6.99 euros per month. You can also sign up for an annual membership for 59.99 euros or a three-month membership for 19.99 euros.
