What is Upday? We explain the news service

Owners of Samsung smartphones already know Upday - because the service is preinstalled on the devices. Our guide takes a look at how it works, as well as the background of the news feature, and also shows you how to disable Upday when not in use.

With upday, you can receive potentially interesting news via notification.

What is Upday? This is how the news service

Upday is used exclusively on Samsung devices and is a so-called news aggregator: as such, Upday collects news from all subject areas and presents them to the user via message in the notification bar.
  • This way, news is supposed to be delivered to you without you having to search for it manually.
  • Since user profiles are taken into account, the service tries to show each user the most suitable news possible. So not every user gets the same news on the screen.
  • The process is very simple: after you receive the message and tap on the bar, a slightly more detailed preview opens in a new window. From there, you can get to the full article, if desired.
By the way, the service was not completely developed by Samsung alone, but with the help of a startup of Axel Springer SE, since the resources for news processing are already available there.

Upday: How to deactivate the Samsung service

If you do not use Samsung-Upday, it is possible to deactivate the news service. To do this, open the settings of your Samsung smartphone and navigate to "Device" > "Apps" > "Application list". There, tap the "three-dot menu" at the top right and select "Show system processes". Search for "Upday" in the list that appears, tap the entry and select "Disable".
