Disabling IPv6 - the right way to do it

IPv6 is the successor protocol of IPv4 and is used to uniquely identify your PC or laptop. If you have problems with IPv6 or prefer to use the old IPv4, you can simply disable IPv6. This is possible in several ways and works directly via the FritzBox.

This is IPv6

IPv6 is a new standard for IP addresses that has 128-bit addressing and supports a larger number of possible IP addresses. Compared to the old IPv4 standard, IPv6 has many advantages. For example, with IPv6, network address translation (NAT) is no longer necessary; instead, a direct point-to-point connection between multiple network devices is possible. In addition, IPv6 supports larger data packets, and routing is accelerated by reducing unnecessary traffic.

How to disable IPv6 on Windows PC

If you want to disable IPv6 despite the advantages, it is possible via the Windows registry. The modern routers usually have a built-in function to disable iPv6.
  1. First open the FritzBox website with your browser. Geben Sie hierfür in die Adressleiste „http://fritz.box“ ein.
  2. Loggen Sie sich nun mit Ihrem Kennwort und Ihrem Passwort in Ihren Account ein.
