Windows 10: Edit autostart folder

In previous version of Windows, there was an autostart folder that stored programs that were automatically launched when the operating system started. Since Windows 10, this is no longer the case. To be able to manage the startup programs, there is now an option in the task manager of Windows.

How to edit the Startup folder in Windows 10

The Startup folder is usually used to manage all the programs that are started automatically when Windows boots up. In Windows 10, this folder no longer exists, which is why it is not easy to find the management of startup programs at first. Additional software is not necessary for this function, Windows has already integrated all the possibilities.
  1. If you want to edit the list of programs, you must do this via the task manager.
  2. Open this either via the search function of Windows 10 or with the key combination "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "Del" and then go to "Task Manager".
  3. Now a window opens in which there are various tabs to choose from. Click on the tab "Autostart". Here you can see all the programs that are automatically opened at startup.
  4. To prevent programs from starting automatically, click the corresponding entry and then select "Disable".
  5. If you want to add programs to the list, press the key combination "Windows" key + "R" and enter "shell:startup" in the text box. Drag into the open folder the .exe file of the program.
