Clean your graphics card - with these tips it works

If a lot of dirt has accumulated on your PC's graphics card over time, it helps to clean it. However, since this can cause damage to the graphics card, it is necessary to pay attention to a few things. Get an overview of the correct procedure.

Before cleaning: How to remove your graphics card

To free your PC's graphics card from dust and dirt, you can clean it. However, cleaning can cause irreparable mechanical and electrical damage to the graphics card, so you should only clean it if it is very dirty. Also, before cleaning the graphics card, it is necessary to remove it from the computer. To do this, shut down your PC completely and disconnect it from the power supply. Then open the PC case, loosen the screws and press the lever that attaches the card to the slot to pull it out.

This is how you clean your graphics card from dirt

Once you have removed the graphics card from the computer, you can start cleaning it. However, please do not use any cleaning agents, as this can damage the components of the card.
  1. To remove coarser dirt, it is best to use an anti-static cloth and wipe the card with it.
  2. If dust and dirt have settled in the slats and corners of the graphics card, clean them with the help of a cotton swab.
  3. Alternatively, dry dirt can also be removed with a compressed air spray from the card.
  4. If liquids have reached the graphics card, which stick them, dip the cloth or cotton swab in distilled water and try to remove the adhesions with it.
