Enable onboard graphics card - here's how to do it

If you want to enable your computer's onboard graphics card, you have several options. For example, you can activate the hardware using Windows' integrated Device Manager.

How to activate the onboard graphics solution via the Device Manager

Many motherboards have an integrated graphics card. This usually only performs the most necessary functions and is especially handy if your built-in graphics card is defective or you want to check it. Do you want to activate the onboard graphics card, proceed as follows:
  1. Open using the Windows search.
  2. Select this, you get a list of all installed or connected devices. With a click on the arrow next to the item "graphics cards", you can view existing devices.
  3. Click with the right mouse button on the onboard graphics card and select the menu item "Activate device".
For the change to take effect, you may need to reboot your computer.

Enable onboard graphics card in BIOS

If the graphics card does not appear in the device manager, you may need to enable it in BIOS. The names of the correct menus differ between manufacturers. If in doubt, look up in the user manual how to activate the onboard graphics card in your BIOS.
  1. Start the BIOS when booting the computer. This works by pressing [Del] or one of the function keys.
  2. Then look for an entry that has the abbreviation "VGA", "Onboard VGA" or "Internal Graphics". Set this to "enabled" and exit the BIOS with "Save & Exit".
  3. The onboard graphics card should then be enabled.
