Add AdSense to WordPress: How it works

With AdSense, WordPress publishers can generate advertising revenue by displaying banners on their site. But first, there's the matter of installing AdSense. Our guide will help.

With AdSense, your WordPress site becomes part of Google's banner ad program.

Ad banners are just one of many ways to monetize WordPress. Nevertheless, they are often used, not only exclusively, but complementary to other methods.

AdSense and WordPress: How to proceed

First you need to link your WordPress site to WordPress.
  1. This can be done in your AdSense account, which you can find here, in the "Sites" section.
  2. Then click on "Set up ads". There you have the choice between different methods, of which "Automatic ads" are the easiest option, especially in the beginning.
  3. Continue with the selection of the ad type. Select any type on a test basis or the desired one if you already have precise ideas. You can also select multiple types at the same time.
  4. After you have clicked "Save", you will receive a code. This you must now copy and paste on your pages.
You must do this between the <head>tags of your web page code. The code must be pasted on every page where AdSense should be active. It is also possible to include the code in widgets that appear in the sidebar, for example. Especially for WordPress sites, Google provides some tips to make the installation quick.Note that it can take up to 20 minutes after installation until the ads are active. Only after that you can determine whether it worked or not. However, this is not true until your account is fully set up, which may take a few days or longer because of Google's verification.
