Most apps and functions of a smartphone are connected to the internet. If you want to use a smartphone without the Internet, you will have to do without many functions. Regular updates can also not be downloaded this way. Nevertheless, you can use the device as a phone.

If you don't want to use your smartphone to go online to download apps or chat via instant messenger, then there are devices without this function. When using a smartphone without the Internet, there are certain points to consider.

1. You can make phone calls and send text messages with the phones as usual. A well-known device is the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro.
2. Alternatively, you can also turn off the Internet function itself via the settings. On an Android device, for example, go to "Settings" > "Network & Internet" > "Data usage" > "Mobile data traffic" and disable the option "Mobile data".
3. On the iPhone, you will find this option under "Settings" > "Mobile network". Here, deactivate "Mobile data".
4. With the device, you can make calls, write SMS and create photos without the Internet. Diese werden allerdings nicht in einer Cloud abgespeichert.
5. Zahlreiche Apps können ebenfalls nicht genutzt werden, da diese meist nur mit einer Verbindung zum Internet funktionieren. Vor allem Instant-Messenger, wie Telegram oder WhatsApp, gehören dazu.
6. Auch die regelmäßigen Softwareupdates, die Sicherheitslücken schließen oder Funktionen hinzufügen, fallen weg.
