Windows error: page_fault_in_nonpaged_area

It happens occasionally with Windows 7, 8 and 10: The PC crashes, shows only a blue screen and the error message "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA". At first, this looks like a lost workday, but it is usually easy to fix. Often it is a driver problem.

How to fix the Windows error?

A blue screen in Windows has never been a good sign. If on top of that you get the error message "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA", it means you need to spend a little time to fix the problem. First check the following common causes:
  1. Most of the time, the driver is out of date. Bring it up to date with an update.
  2. You may have recently installed a new program that corrupted the registry. Test whether everything runs as it should by entering the command "sfc/scannow" in the Windows command prompt and confirm with "Enter".
  3. Possibly there is an error in the working memory. Check this with a few steps from the PC.

What can you do if this does not help?

If none of the above elements is the cause of the error message, proceed to more drastic methods. The following procedures are possible:
  1. Turn off your PC, unplug the network connector and wait a few minutes for the computer to completely discharge.
  2. Open the case of the PC and check whether all connections are properly seated and all cables are intact.
  3. If the error message is still displayed after a restart, the haptic element of the RAM may be defective. Replace this.
