Monetize YouTube videos - how it works

YouTube is an online platform for uploading videos. Each user has the ability to upload and distribute their content. Individual YouTube channels have a high viewership and can generate a large reach because of it. Then monetization of videos comes into question.

Requirements for monetizing your videos

YouTube has tightened its requirements for inclusion in the Partner Program since the beginning of the year to prevent spam and other policy violations. If your channel has a subscriber count of 1,000 subscribers and playback time of 4,000 hours within a year, you are eligible for inclusion in the monetization program. In addition, your channel must be linked to an AdSense account. Should you pass the verification, the following steps are still necessary.

How to monetize YouTube videos

1. First, you need to verify that your channel meets YouTube's guidelines.
2. Activate two-factor authorization on your Google account.
3. Check if you have enough subscribers and your public videos have reached the valid playback time.
4. In YouTube, click on your profile picture and then click "YouTube Studio". Select "Monetization."
5. Accept the Terms of Service and select "Sign up with Google AdSense" by clicking "Start". Note that you are only allowed to have one AdSense account.
6. Once all items under "Monetization" are marked with a green "Done" icon, your channel will be automatically verified.
7. In YouTube Studio you can see the status of your application under "Channel Monetization".
