Gamescom 2018: Highlights of the games fair at a glance

Gamescom 2018 is over and the conclusion is clear: even in the coldest winter, hot times awaited gamers. We clearly present some of the highlights of the games fair in Cologne.

Gamescom 2018 was dominated by big names, but also gave newcomers a stage.

Gamescom 2018: Highlights peppered with big names

Compared to other trade fairs like E3, Gamescom is still young. Nevertheless, it is now considered one of the most important industry events of all, which no publisher should miss. The list of games presented is impressive:

• Battlefield V: The shooter is used as a drawing card for Nvidia's new GeForce generation with ray tracing. At Gamescom, the effects were shown and these could be seen.
• FIFA 19: The latest FIFA offshoot has the licenses for Champions League and Europa League for the first time. EA Sports naturally took advantage of this at Gamescom.
• Sable: The indie game promises a novel gaming experience. The graphics are reminiscent of a graphic novel, the player does not have to complete any quests, survive any battles. The freedom that results is said to make for a more individualized gaming experience.
• Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Ever since the revival of the Tomb Raider franchise, gamers have been excited. The latest part, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, was impressively presented at Gamescom.
• Anthem was released in February 2019 and is reminiscent of a mixture of Destiny 2 and Mass Effect: Andromeda. That alone is enough to raise great expectations, as the demonstration at Gamescom proved.
• Spider-Man 4 will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 and looks like a mega hit, both visually and in terms of content.
• In contrast, Forza Horizon 4 was launched exclusively for Xbox One and PC on October 2. At Gamescom, it became clear that the racing game genre will remain firmly in Microsoft's hands.
