DaWanda: Alternative - find another marketplace

Until its closure in August 2018, the DaWanda.com platform was one of the largest online marketplaces for homemade products in Germany, with over 360,000 makers and 6.9 million users. If you are looking for an alternative, you can switch to one of the numerous other do-it-yourself portals.

Online marketplace Etsy

Officially, the online marketplace Etsy is the successor of DaWanda. To open your own Etsy store, all you have to do is register on the website. Then you set a name for the store. Now you can post items and set a payment method and a billing method.
  • Posting an item costs 0.18 euros, this then remains online for four months or just until it is sold.
  • When the item is sold, Etsy charges a transaction fee of 5 percent on the sales price you set.
  • If the payment is processed via Etsy Payments, there is a processing fee of 4 percent + 0.30 euros.
  • Etsy supports PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay in addition to the usual payment methods.

Redbubble: The alternative for artists

Another option is Redbubble, a global marketplace for creatives. Here you can find mainly home decor, stickers, murals and clothing designed by artists. Unlike Etsy, you don't sell the item itself, but the design. For example, if you have designed the imprint for a T-shirt, you can offer it as a design on Redbubble.
  • Registering and creating a store on Redbubble is free.
  • Posting designs is also possible at no cost. If an item is sold, Redbubble charges a commission.
  • In return, Redbubble takes care of manufacturing, shipping and packaging as well as payment processing and customer support.
