WhatsApp: Change notification tone

In WhatsApp you are informed about the arrival of new messages by a notification tone. If you don't like the default tone or want to set an individual tone for individual contacts or groups, you can change the tone.

WhatsApp: How to change the notification tone

If you don't like the current notification tone in WhatsApp, you have the option of changing it directly in the app. How you need to do this depends on whether you are using an Android or iOS smartphone.

1. On an Android device, please first open WhatsApp and tap on the three dots in the top right corner to open the menu.
2. From the menu, then select the "Settings" option and navigate to "Notifications" to change the tones for messages, group notifications or calls.
3. If, on the other hand, you use WhatsApp on the iPhone, you must first click on "Settings" at the bottom right after opening the app and then on "Notifications" to make changes to the notification tones there.

How to set up an individual notification tone in WhatsApp

If you do not want to use the same notification tone for all of your WhatsApp contacts and groups, the app also offers you the option to select an individual tone for each chat. To do this, open the chat for which you want to set an individual notification tone and click on the contact to call up the contact info. There, under "Custom notifications" or "Custom tones", you have the option to select a tone that only sounds when you have received a new message from the contact.
