iPhone X: Duplicate contacts - how to delete them

If you find some duplicate contacts in the Contacts app on your iPhone X, this is probably because you synchronize your contacts with other services. However, by disabling the corresponding groups, you can easily delete duplicate contacts without losing any data.

How to remove duplicate contacts from iPhone X

If you use other Apple services, such as iCloud or sync your contacts with mail apps, such as Yahoo or Outlook, it may happen that some contacts suddenly appear twice on your iPhone X. To delete the duplicate contacts from your iPhone X without losing any data, please use the following procedure:
  1. First tap the Contacts app icon in the app overview of your iPhone X to open it.
  2. Next navigate to "Groups" in the app and make sure only one group is activated.
  3. Alternatively, if you do not need your contacts in the iCloud, you can also turn off their synchronization by going to "Settings" > "iCloud" on the iPhone X and move the slider next to the "Contacts" entry so that it is grayed out.

Duplicate contacts: How to delete individual contacts from the iPhone X

In addition to the ability to remove duplicate contacts, you also have the option to remove individual contacts from the iPhone X at any time. To do so, click "Contacts" in the Contacts app and select the contact you want to delete. Then tap on "Edit" and select "Delete contact". As soon as you confirm the process by clicking on "Delete contact" again, the corresponding contact will be permanently removed from the iPhone X.
