Instagram: Insert link in bio - here's how to do it

Unlike on many social media platforms, sharing links on Instagram doesn't work in comments or captions. If you want to advertise your own website, for example, you can only do so via the bio.

How to add a link to your Instagram bio

The options for posting links are limited on Instagram. Among other things, the platform wants to prevent users from excessive self-promotion. Furthermore, this is to prevent spam in the form of posts and in the comments section. One of the few ways to place a clickable link is the bio, which you can find on your profile.

1. Open the Instagram app on your smartphone or tablet.
2. Tap on the figure icon at the bottom right of the menu bar to access your profile.
3. Then select the option "Edit profile" in the profile overview.
4. Enter the URL that should be displayed in your profile in the text field "Website".
5. Finally tap on the blue tick in the top right corner to apply the changes.

If you then call up your profile, you will see the link you entered in the bio. Unlike in a post or comment, this is clickable and opens the linked website directly.
