Notebook: Replace hard drive with SSD

If you want to switch from your current hard drive to an SSD on your notebook, there are a few things to consider. Switching to a different hard drive involves effort and in many cases can lead to the loss of some data. With our guide, you will succeed in the process.

Notebook: How to replace your hard drive with an SSD

First, you need to decide whether you want to clone the contents of your current hard drive to the new one or do the conversion directly. The following instructions are only oriented towards the direct conversion.
  1. Disconnect the notebook from any power sources and remove any connected peripherals.
  2. Now turn the device over and remove the battery to be able to open the case. Note that this step will void the warranty for many manufacturers.
  3. Once the battery is removed, grab a Phillips screwdriver and remove all the case screws.
  4. Find the hard drive cover and unscrew it.
  5. Carefully disconnect the cables to the hard drive and remove the storage device.
  6. Now you can already connect the SSD and mount it in the case.
