Protect Excel spreadsheet with password - this is how it is possible

If even other people have access to your computer or you want to send an Excel file, then it is usually necessary to take additional security measures. To prevent unauthorized opening of your Excel spreadsheet, you can protect it with a suitable password. Only a few settings are necessary for this.

How to protect your Excel spreadsheet with a password

In some cases you store sensitive information in an Excel spreadsheet. For example, if you want to send it to another person afterwards, then additional security measures are necessary. Therefore, if you want to prevent unauthorized people from accessing the Excel spreadsheet, you can protect it with a suitable password. This way, only people who also know the appropriate password can open the table.
  1. If you are using Excel on macOS, then first open the table that you want to lock.
  2. Now go to "File" and then "Save as". Now you need to select the folder in which you want to save your Excel file.
  3. In "File Format" select the item "Options" and enter the desired password. Confirm the entry with "Ok".
  4. If you are using Windows instead, also select "More options" under File format. After that, however, go to "Tools" and select the "General Options" entry. Here, too, you can then enter a suitable password.
  5. Now it is only possible with password to open the Excel spreadsheet.
