Word: Enable spell checker - how to use the help

German spelling is very complex. If you don't feel confident, Word's spelling tool can help you with your writing. That's because the review option will show you your spelling and grammar errors and offer suggestions on how to fix them.

How to enable spell check in Word

When you enable spell check, you will see all the errors. You can recognize them by the fact that they are underlined in red.
  1. Open a blank document in Word and click on the menu.
  2. Find the "File" item here and click on it.
  3. In the new menu, you need to click on the "Options" sub-item and then click on the "Document Check".
  4. Set a check mark for the item "Check spelling as you type" so that the function is active.
  5. Confirm your selection afterwards and start composing the text.

Pay attention to your Word version

If you are working with older versions of Word, this can lead to problems. This is because in recent years there have been changes in spelling reforms and also new exceptions. If the version of Word you are using is not up to date, you will not see all the errors. In addition, you may be shown errors that are no longer errors after the new reform.
