FaceTime for Android: Everything you need to know

With FaceTime you can quickly and easily start a video call on Apple devices. The app is only available for devices with iOS operating systems. But you make video calls like FaceTime not only with the iPhone, but also with Android smartphones.

Although FaceTime is developed exclusively for iPhone, iPad and iPod, you still don't have to cut corners as an Android user. There are several apps that enable video calling on Android similar to FaceTime.

Alternatives: Apps like FaceTime for Android

If you want to make video calls via your Android, one thing is crucial: the person you are talking to must be using the same app as you. It therefore makes sense to look for one of the popular apps that as many users as possible have installed.
  • One of the most popular messengers that offer video calls on Android is WhatsApp. This app for chatting, calling and video calling is used by a great many users on both iPhones and Androids.
  • The direct competitor to FaceTime on the Android is Google Hangouts. This app is usually pre-installed on your Android smartphone, so you do not need to download any additional content from the Google Play Store.
  • Other well-known alternatives are, for example, Skype, Telegram and Discord.
However, there is no Android app that allows you to call someone on FaceTime. The person you are talking to needs the same app as you.

Start a video call with Hangouts

Google Hangouts is automatically linked to your Android when you add your Google account on your Android smartphone. To start a Hangouts video call.
  1. Open the Hangouts app by tapping it.
  2. You can choose contacts you want to invite to Google Hangouts from the list. Contacts using Google Hangouts will be displayed at the top.
  3. Tap on a contact. Now you either add more contacts or tap the camera icon to start a video call.
