FritzBox: Smart Home setup - how it works

With a FritzBox you can do much more than just go online and use it as a WLAN router. The useful box has many setting options, especially in the smart home area. This allows you to identify and control lighting, electrical devices and much more.

How to use the FritzBox in smart home?

Normally, you already have a FritzBox, which makes the purchase of an overpriced smart home control center unnecessary. However, this requires setting up the FritzBox.

1. To control devices with the FritzBox, use the DECT. With this system, telephones are also connected wirelessly to the FritzBox. The system runs very low power.
2. In the FritzBox, the devices are divided into "actuators" and "sensors". Actuators are all devices that control something - for example, a light bulb or a window control. Sensors are all devices that measure something - for example, a microphone or a touchscreen.
3. Of course, you must first pair all devices with the FritzBox before you can use them.
4. To do this, first connect the DECT device to the power and then open the FritzBox interface by entering "fritz.box" in your browser address bar.
5. Log in and go to the "Home Network" > "Smart Home" section. Here, click on "Register new device".
6. Hold down the DECT button on the device for a few seconds so that it connects to the FritzBox. The setup is now automatic.
