Skype can't connect: How to remedy

Skype serves as an important communication tool during meetings, university courses, and other appointments. If you receive an error message such as "Unfortunately, we could not connect to Skype", you can find the cause and solve the problem in just a few steps.

Since conversations via Skype take place as voice transmissions over Internet Protocol, you need access to the Internet to use the software. Therefore, if you cannot connect to Skype, you should first check if you have Internet access. At the bottom right of the taskbar you will find the LAN or WLAN icon, depending on your connection.
