Skype microphone doesn't work: what you can do
You can chat and start voice and video calls via the popular messenger Skype. However, it is problematic if the Skype microphone does not work - but often the error can be easily fixed.
Check settings: Microphone does not work in Skype
Frequently the problem that the microphone does not work is due to an incorrect setting in Skype. For example, an update to the software, microphone driver or your operating system may change the default settings so that your mic is not selected as a recording device. You can change this directly in Skype:- Start Skype and click on your profile picture.
- Now select "Settings" and switch to "Audio and Video".
- In the menu item "Microphone" you can see which microphone is currently selected.
- Click on it to select the correct device and confirm your changes with "Save".
- To test the functionality of the microphone, you can click "Free test call to Skype voicemail" in the same menu below to start a test call and set up Skype properly.
Check the connection of the microphone
Other settings can also make the microphone inoperable. If it is not recognized by Windows, check the cable for cable breakage and make sure the connector is in the correct port. Set up the microphone again in Windows:- First, find Control Panel in Windows Search. Press the Windows key and just type the term.
- You may need to change the display to "Small icons" in the Control Panel.
- Then click on "Speech Recognition" and there click on "Set up microphone".
- Hold on to the instructions so that the microphone subsequently goes in both Windows and Skype.
