Formula 1: Which channel will broadcast live from 2021? All info

For German viewers, a big change is in store for Formula 1 from the 2021 season - albeit not a pretty one. We explain how you can watch the races live even after RTL goes out of business.

No more free TV: Formula 1 will only be available live on pay TV from 2021.

Since the great Schumacher days, Formula 1 has been a firm part of RTL. 2020, however, will be the Cologne-based broadcaster's farewell tour of the premier class for the time being.

Those who still want to remain faithful to Formula 1 have the following options in 2021:

• The exclusive rights for the German market are held by Sky for 2021 and 2022. A subscription to the pay-TV provider is consequently necessary.
• After all, Sky has already announced that it will broadcast four races unencrypted. This is intended to attract potential new customers.
• The consequence of Sky's exclusivity: Formula 1's in-house service, namely F1 TV, can no longer be booked by German customers since June 2020.

Except for the four free races, there is thus no way around Sky for German viewers. For joy this prospect does not provide, primarily because of the possibility that with Mick Schumacher possibly soon the son of the legend could find his way into Formula 1.
