WLAN 5 GHz: Which channel is best?
If you want to use the 5 GHz frequency band when wirelessly surfing the Internet, there are several channels available for this purpose. Which channel is best for you can be determined using special analysis tools. Read here how to change the channel directly on the WLAN router.
5 GHz: How to find out which is the best WLAN channel
When you use a WLAN router to surf the Internet with your computer, the devices communicate via so-called frequency bands. While most routers send their signal over the 2.4 GHz frequency band, some devices also support the 5 GHz band. The advantage of using the 5 GHz band is that a higher bandwidth and speed is achieved and it is less susceptible to interference. If you want to surf on the 5 GHz frequency in Germany, you can do so on different channels. To check which channel is the best, a tool such as "Wifi Analyser" will help you, showing you how many devices are transmitting on a particular channel. How to change the WLAN channel when surfing with the 5 GHz frequency band
If you have determined during the analysis of your WLAN connection that another channel is used less than the channel you are currently using, you can simply change it via the router's settings.- To do this, please first open any browser and enter the IP address of the router in its address bar to open the user interface.
- Navigate in the user interface of your WLAN router then to "WLAN" and tap on "WLAN signal" or "Radio channel".
- Now still select an available channel from the drop-down menu under "Customize radio channel settings" to change it.
