Setting WLAN: 5-GHz - how it works

If you surf the Internet wirelessly via a WLAN network, you can do so at 2.4- or 5-GHz. However, in order for your computer to use the 5-GHz network, which is less susceptible to interference, you must first adjust some settings on the device.

Setting 5-GHz for WLAN: This procedure is necessary on Windows PC

If your router has both a 2.4 GHz network and a 5 GHz network, it is recommended to use 5 GHz. Compared to the older 2.4 GHz standard, this not only gives you higher transmission power, but also more overlap-free channels, making it less susceptible to interference. To use 5 GHz for your WLAN connection, please follow the steps below to set it up:
  1. If you have a Windows 10 PC, please first press the key combination of "Windows key" + "X" and select "Device Manager" from the menu that opens.
  2. In the Device Manager, please expand the "Network Adapter" category and search for your WLAN module.
  3. Then click with the real mouse button on the "WLAN module" and go to "Properties" > "Advanced".
  4. Depending on which WLAN adapter your computer uses, you must now make the appropriate setting to prioritize 5-GHz.

WLAN: How to set 5-GHz on the Android smartphone

Not only on the computer, but also on some smartphones it is possible to use 5-GHz as WLAN standard. If this is supported by your Android device, please first navigate to "Settings" > "WLAN" and tap the "three-dot icon" at the top right. In the menu there, then tap on "Advanced" and select the appropriate frequency band under "WLAN frequency band".
