Setting up the Fritz WLAN repeater - how it works

Fitted to the FritzBox, the manufacturer AVM offers a Fritz WLAN repeater, with which you can increase the range of the WLAN in your home. The two methods to set up the Fritz WLAN repeater, we explain in this article step by step.

Setting up the Fritz WLAN repeater using WPS

If you only have very poor WLAN reception in parts of your house or apartment, a WLAN repeater can help. This receives the WLAN signal from your router, amplifies it and thus increases the range of the signal. If you have a FritzBox, the use of the Fritz WLAN repeater offers itself for the amplification of the WLAN signal.
  1. To set up the Fritz WLAN repeater, plug it first into a socket near your FritzBox.
  2. Then press the WPS button of the repeater and hold it down until the WLAN indicator begins to flash.
  3. Now also hold down the WLAN button on the FritzBox until its WLAN light flashes.
  4. The two devices then automatically establish a connection and you can then plug the router into any outlet in your house.

How to set up the Fritz WLAN repeater manually

If the automatic setup of the repeater via WPS does not work for you, you can alternatively set up the device via the browser. To do this, first connect the repeater to the power supply and then open the device's user interface in the browser at "http://fritz.repeater/". Once you have entered the password of the repeater, which is "00000000" by default for AVM repeaters, the wizard will guide you through all necessary steps to set up the repeater.
