BlizzCon 2019: App required for entry - what you should know

BlizzCon 2018 went down in history with a negative climax. For the 2019 event, the first info has now appeared and once again fans are not exactly thrilled. Read what the app is all about.

Admission to BlizzCon 2019 will only be possible with the AXS app.

BlizzCon 2019 will take place on November 1 and 2, 2019, as always at the Anaheim Convention Center (California). On both days, the event goes from 9:30 to 22:00 local time.

BlizzCon 2019: App as an admission ticket is mandatory

Now, however, it was announced that there will be no more classic tickets in paper form.
  • The only admission option is the app "AXS Tickets", which is available for Android and iOS.
  • As if this smartphone compulsion wasn't reason enough for fans to get angry, the app itself is also drawing a lot of criticism.
  • Because the AXS app asks for an extremely large amount of data, including virtually all personal information, as well as credit card number and location tracking.
  • And: In order to use the app, users must accept the privacy policy. This states that AXS may share and sell the information - there is no possibility to object.
The app is thus a real "data octopus", critics already openly speak of spyware. Considering which topic (and which statement) caused an outcry at the 2018 event, it seems all the more piquant that smartphones are now also taking center stage from an organizational perspective. Fans see this as a confirmation of Blizzard's future route of focusing more on mobile, and this is not going down well with the actual target audience.
