Ubuntu: View kernel version - how to do it
The kernel is a central component of the Ubuntu operating system and is needed, among other things, to access the processor and other devices. If you do not know which kernel version your computer is using, Ubuntu offers you two methods to display the version.
Display kernel version: These methods are provided by Ubuntu
The kernel, also known as the system kernel or operating system kernel, is the central module of Ubuntu and any other operating system. It consists of several layers, so-called layers, and acts as the interface of system hardware and the application software.- If you do not know which kernel your Ubuntu PC uses, the quickest way to find out is to look at the system information of the computer.
- To do this, first open the Start menu of Ubuntu and search there for the term "System Information" to open the corresponding program.
- In the system information, then go to the entry "Linux kernel" to read the current kernel version.
This is how you find the kernel version via the Ubuntu terminal
Alternatively, the display of the kernel version that your Ubuntu computer uses is also possible via the terminal of the operating system.- To use this method, please open the Ubuntu terminal first by pressing the key combination of "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "T" on your keyboard.
- In the open terminal, then enter the command "uname -r" and confirm by pressing the "Enter" key to execute the command.
- Have you executed the command, the current kernel version is then displayed in the terminal window.
