View bios: version - get clarity

Many users think that they have to restart the PC or laptop before they can view the information about their bios version. However, it is much easier to view the version number if you know how it works.

Find out your version

Bios refers to the firmware of x86 pcs, and you usually notice it during the boot process. However, you can also access this information manually.
  1. Any information about the bios version of your PC or laptop can be obtained from the register database. There are two variants.
  2. Hold down the Windows key and the R key. Now you need to enter the term "regedit" in the command line and then confirm your entry with "Ok".
  3. Alternatively, open the Windows Start menu and enter the command in the search bar. Then click on "Run".
  4. Now the user account control query appears. You must confirm this. In the editor, open the navigation column.
  5. Follow the path "Hkey_Local_Machine > Hardware > Description" and select the entry "System".
  6. Now a new window opens on the right side, in which the most important information about the Bios system is listed. The version number can be found in the line "SystemBiosVersion".

All from America

You will find the entire Bios data sorted according to the American notation. This means that dates are also listed by month/day/year. You should pay attention to this when reading out the desired information.
