Telegram: Create backup - how to back up your chats

Unlike messengers such as WhatsApp and Co, Telegram does not have a proper backup function. The reason for this is the way the messenger works. However, with the help of the Telegram desktop app, you have the option of backing up your chats locally.

This is how you export your chats in Telegram

The Telegram app for smartphones and tablets is not equipped with a backup function. However, if you want to back up chat histories, this still works via a trick in the desktop version of the messenger.

1. Go to the Telegram website via your browser and download the desktop app. Run the app after installing it.
2. Click the three dashes in the top left to open the menu and access the settings.
3. Switch to the "Data and Storage" category and click the "Export Data" option.
4. Determine which chats you want to export and scroll down.
5. Specify where you want Telegram to store the chat history on your computer via the storage path. So that you can also open the exported file afterwards, select the HTML format as the file format.
