Will the PlayStation 5 be backward compatible? All info

Backward compatibility is an important consideration for many console gamers once a new generation is released. Regarding the PlayStation 5, there is finally clarity and we summarize all the info.

Games for the PlayStation 4 will most likely run on the PlayStation 5.

Most likely, the PlayStation 5 will be released in summer or fall 2020. For PS4 owners, this already raises the question of what this means for existing games.

PlayStation 5: Finally backwards compatible

In spring 2019, Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 will be backwards compatible.
  • The backwards compatibility will probably only affect games from the PlayStation 4, however.
  • PS3 titles would thus be left out, as the technical leap is simply too great. As a reminder, the PlayStation 3 was released in 2006, so the hardware difference between it and the PS5 is significant.
Along with the flagship games that are mandatory for the release of every new console, PS5 owners will have a large assortment at their disposal. It is important to note that PS4 games will not necessarily be old news despite the new titles, as technically demanding games can be enjoyed all the better on the new hardware. Spiele wie Red Dead Redemption 2 werden von der leistungsstarken PlayStation 5 deutlich profitieren – der alte Bestand hat sich seinen Platz im Regal also weiterhin verdient.
