Seeing the Apple Pencil charge level - how it works

The Apple Pencil turns the newer models of the iPad into a digital notepad and drawing pad. For the pencil to work, it needs power. This is supplied via an integrated battery. The charge level of the battery can be found out with the help of a widget.

How to see the Apple Pencil charge level

Use the battery widget to get all the information about the battery directly on the iPad's home screen.
  1. Unlock your iPad and switch to the home screen.
  2. Swipe there to the left until you get to the widget overview.
  3. If the battery widget is already active, you can read the charge level of your Apple Pencil there.
Note that the Apple Pencil is only displayed when it is connected to the iPad. Otherwise, you will only be shown the battery level of your iPad.

Enable battery widget - here's how to do it

If the battery widget is missing from the Home screen, it needs to be enabled. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Swipe to the left on the Home screen.
  2. Scroll all the way down in the widget overview until you find the button labeled "Edit" and tap it.
  3. Search for the "Battery" item in the "More Widgets" list.
  4. Tap the green plus to the left of "Battery" to activate the widget.
In Edit mode, you also have the option to arrange the active widgets as you wish.
