iPhone X: Switching between apps - this is how it works

On the iPhone X, the home button is no longer available to switch between different apps. However, we explain in this article how you can still navigate between individual apps with the help of intuitive gestures.

iPhone X: How to switch between different apps on the device

Since the iPhone X is the first iPhone model that was not equipped with a home button, you can no longer use it to switch between individual apps. Instead, you have to use various swipe gestures to navigate the device or adjust settings.
  1. To switch between two apps using the new gesture feature, first swipe from the bottom of the screen to the center on the iPhone X screen.
  2. Then hold your finger on the display until the app switcher appears and swipe to the side until the app you are looking for appears.
  3. If you want to switch to an app that you have already opened and used before, this is fastest possible by swiping below the dock from left to right in the display.

Switch between apps: How to close open apps on the iPhone X

If you want to close an app that is open on the iPhone X, this is also possible by means of a swipe gesture. To do so, first swipe up from the bottom of the screen and keep your finger on the screen until the multitasking view appears. Then search for the app you want to close and press and hold the app window until the close icon appears. Now tap the close icon still and move the app up until it disappears.
