Rename multiple files at once

If you want to rename a file, you can do so using a keyboard shortcut or the corresponding option in the context menu. It is more difficult if you want to rename several files at the same time. Nevertheless, you do not necessarily have to install additional software on your computer.

To rename multiple files at once

You can use a keyboard shortcut to rename a single file. Alternatively, right-click the file, select "Rename" from the context menu, and confirm the new name with the Enter key. If you want to rename several files at once according to a certain scheme, you can use a third-party software. Alternatively, an option of Windows Explorer is also possible.
  1. First click the first file you want to rename.
  2. Now hold down the Shift key on your keyboard and click the last file at the same time to select all files at once.
  3. Press the F2 key and enter the name for the file. Finish this by appending (1) to the name, such as "Name (1).gif".
  4. Confirm the name. Now all files will have the same name, but the number will count up. Die Dateiendungen werden dadurch nicht beeinflusst.
  5. Möchten Sie Dateien dagegen mit einem anderen Schema benennen oder bestimmte Einstellungen treffen, dann ist dies nur über eine Software möglich.
