Connecting a hard drive to Fritzbox - how to do it

By connecting a hard drive to your Fritzbox, you can share storage with all devices on the network. This fact is especially worthwhile for setting up a media center on your network. We explain here which steps are necessary to connect the hard drive.

This is what you need for the connection

First, you need to turn off the USB remote connection in the user interface of your Fritzbox. You can find the option under "Home network"> "USB devices"> "USB remote connection". Disable the option "USB storage" and click "Apply".
  1. Now the hard drive can be connected to the Fritzbox.
  2. To begin, you must create a user account to access the hard drive.
  3. Click "System" and then "FRITZ!Box Users".
  4. Select "Add User" if no account has been created so far, and set a name and password.
  5. Use the pencil icon to access the options and enable the "Access to NAS content" option. Then click on "Add directory".
  6. To ensure that every user of the Fritzbox now has access to all storage media, select the option "All storage available at the FRITZ!Box".
  7. Save the settings by clicking on "OK".

Fritzbox: Enable access to the hard disk

In order for access to finally be possible, the hard disk must still be activated in the home network. To do this, go to "FRITZ!Box Users" in the "System" menu and activate the option ""Log in with FRITZ!Box user name and password" under "Log in to home network". Then click on "Home Network" in the menu on the right, select "Storage (NAS)" and activate your hard disk by placing a check mark. Hard disk access is then possible at http://fritz.nas.
