Snapchat: user numbers stable, strong revenue growth

The current figures read as follows:

• The important thing is the daily active users: this is 190 million worldwide, of which 80 million come from North America. 61 million are from Europe and 49 million are from the rest of the world.
• Within Europe, France is the largest Snapchat country, followed by the United Kingdom and then Germany.
• The most important countries outside the U.S. and Europe are India, Mexico and Brazil.
• All of these users provide Snapchat's main source of revenue, which is advertising revenue: Overall, the annual revenue in 2018 from advertising was 1.2 billion US dollars and that means a huge increase of 43 percent.

Compared to industry leader WhatsApp, Snapchat's numbers are nevertheless rather small. This is not least due to its rather special mode of operation: Snapchat is considered an instant messenger just like WhatsApp, Telegram and Co. but was used from the beginning for automatically deleting photos. How well this niche will work in the future is completely open, as there has recently been an upward trend after the app was previously considered dead.
