What is Single Sign-On? - An overview of the process
Single Sign-On allows you to log in anywhere without having to re-enter different passwords. It does this by using a single authentication process to manage all access to applications, services, or resources.
What is Single Sign-On
Nowadays, it is hard to imagine using different social media websites without it. In addition, there are also various websites for job or university, cloud services or even online stores. For all sites, you need to set a username or email address and a password. To speed up these login processes, there is single sign-on. Thanks to the process, separate logins for different services are no longer necessary, as authentication is handled in a single step.- With Single Sign-On, you log in to a computer with a central password. Afterwards, you have the possibility to access all used services from this.
- As soon as you log out of your central account, you have to enter the user data for the services individually again to log in.
- It is also possible to set a time limit. This will automatically log you out of the central account after a certain time you have been idle.
- Examples of such services are available, for example, at Apple. Here you can save all your usernames and passwords and they are automatically called when you call the page again. However, it works only as long as you are logged in with your Apple account on this computer.
