Uninstall Windows completely: Remove the system

If you don't want to use Windows anymore or the operating system doesn't meet your needs, then you have the option to completely remove the system from your device. For this, all you need is some time and the right instructions, which we provide here.

How to uninstall Windows completely

To completely remove Windows from your device, you need to access Linux. Complete uninstallation will remove all data as well as the boot manager.
  1. If you are sure that you do not want to use Windows anymore, you should create a backup to save your existing data. For this, it is best to use an external hard drive.
  2. For Windows to be completely removed, you must have a live Linux. It is best to use Linux from a USB stick or CD.
  3. In addition, the selected Linux must also have the right tools, such as PartedMagic.
  4. Start the program and select the option "Partition Editor" from the desktop. If there are multiple hard drives installed in your device, then you need to select the correct hard drive. Windows is typically labeled "sda".
  5. Delete all Windows partitions with a right click. Then click "Apply" to confirm the setting.
  6. Exit the editor and start the "Erase Disk" entry to overwrite the entire hard disk. Confirm this process, then Windows is completely removed.

When is this process useful?

In principle, you must remove any operating system before you can use a new one. Because otherwise there will be a defect, which will lead to the fact that you can no longer use your device.
