YouTube records: these milestones caused a stir

There are probably hardly any people left who don't know YouTube. Because of its massive distribution, superlatives are the order of the day. We show some of the most groundbreaking records on the platform.

Borders still unknown: A platform like YouTube regularly sets new records.

Around 400 hours of new video material are uploaded to YouTube every minute.YouTube records: a history of subscribers, views and clicks

The following YouTube records are particularly worth knowing:

  • The video with the most views ever is "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee. The music video was uploaded on January 12, 2017, and had more than 6.2 billion views by June 2019.
  • On April 4, the old record for the most views of a video within the first 24 hours was broken. Responsible for this was Black Pink with the video for the single "Kill this Love". The numbers: 56.7 million views in the first 24 hours.
  • Shortly thereafter, the same video broke two more records: it was the first video to reach more than 100 million views in the first three days. It was also viewed by 979,000 users at the same time, which is also a new record.
  • The channel with the most subscribers (about 101 million) worldwide is T-Series, the music label originating from India.
  • The biggest increase in subscribers in one month was recorded by the gamer PewDiePie in December 2018, when he added 6.617 million new subscribers.
  • PewDiePie also holds the record for the longest time at the top of the most subscribed channels, 2,050 days from August 15, 2013 to March 27, 2019.
  • It also goes the other way around: the record for the most subscribers lost in one day can be claimed by James Charles. On May 11, 2019, over 1.2 million subscribers turned away from him as a result of a shitstorm.
The scale that YouTube has reached is very clear from these numbers. And as Internet penetration in emerging markets continues, the platform will continue to grow - the success of T-Series, which hardly anyone in this country knows, is an ideal example.
