Google search operators: For a more efficient search

The following wildcards can be helpful depending on your needs:
  • The operators "AND" and "OR" give you search results that contain both or at least one of the search terms.
  • The prefix "define:" is handy when searching for definitions.
  • "related: "helps when searching for similar / related results.
  • If you want to restrict this to a specific page, use the operator "site:".
  • If you want to restrict the search result to a specific file type, this goes by using "filetype:".
  • With "allintext:" in front of the search input, you ensure that only articles that contain all search terms appear in the search results.
  • "allinurl:" works similarly, but refers only to the URL.
  • "allintitle:" follows the same principle, but with reference to the title of articles.
  • The asterisk (*) serves as a wildcard, but is no longer necessary today.
  • With the minus sign (-) you can exclude certain words from the search.
Quotation marks ("") ensure that a group of words is searched for as precisely as possible and synonyms are excluded. In many cases you don't need any of these search operators, but for very specific searches they can certainly make a noticeable difference.
