Microsoft Teams: microphone not working

Microsoft Teams lets you video conference, chat with colleagues, or share files. Even though the application is extremely handy, technical problems keep disrupting the process. Namely, without a working microphone, it is not possible to communicate during a video meeting.

Reasons why the microphone doesn't work in Microsoft Teams

These causes may be responsible for problems with the microphone:

• Old Teams version: open Teams, click on your profile picture and click "Check Updates". Update if they have an outdated software version.
• App Permissions: Open the settings on Teams and select "Microphone" under "Privacy". The setting for "Microphone Access" must be enabled.
• Old driver: an old driver of your microphone can likewise cause it not to work on a Teams call. Try to fix the problem with a driver update.

1. To test the microphone, open the settings in Teams and navigate to "Devices" there.
