RimWorld: What is Hardcore Mode? We explain

RimWorld offers several ways to customize the difficulty level. Another tool for this is the hardcore mode, which our guide explains below.

For hardcore gamers: In Hardcore Mode, the consequences are always palpable.

The more severe the consequences, the more intense the game feels - RimWorld follows this premise with Hardcore Mode, which is called Commitment Mode in English.

RimWorld: Hardcore mode offers merciless gameplay

You can select Hardcore mode in the course of choosing the difficulty level.
  • With Hardcore mode enabled, you only have one save game slot available. More importantly, you can only save when you exit the game.
  • Loading the save game is also only possible from the main menu. However, you can only reach this by exiting the game - but then it will be saved.
  • In summary, this means that in the case of dramatic turns, you will have to live with the consequences, as a quick reload is not an option.
For many fans, the hardcore mode is the only true setting, as it makes RimWorld feel more dangerous, exciting and realistic. For newcomers, this mode is not necessarily recommended; however, this is also a matter of taste.
