Apple ID: Change password in a few steps
For security reasons, you should regularly change your Apple ID password. This way, your account will remain as protected as possible. Our guide shows the steps to change it.
How to choose your new Apple ID password
To change your Apple ID password, follow these steps:- Log in to the official site with your Apple ID.
- Under "Security" you will find the option "Change Password".
- To check, you must enter your previous password. Then you can set a new password and must confirm it.
- Click "Change Password".
- If you have an iOS device, please navigate in the Settings app to "Your Name" > "Password & Security" > "Change Password".
- Now enter your current password first and then set a new password before you confirm with "Change".
- Use a Mac, the password change is possible by opening the System Preferences and in these go to "Apple ID" > "Password & Security" > "Change Password".
When choosing a new password, pay attention to these specifications from Apple:
- Passwords that you have already used, you may not use again.
- The new password must consist of at least eight characters and contain at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter and one number.
- Further exclusion criteria for the new password are three of the same characters in a row, spaces and your Apple ID.
