Subwoofer: Calculate housing - improve sound

A subwoofer belongs to every good sound system. If you do not want to spend a lot of money on a system or you can not find the right device, you can also build the subwoofer yourself. However, you need to pay attention to a few things, especially when calculating the housing.

This is how you plan the housing of your subwoofer

If you want to build your sound system yourself, you must also plan the housing of your subwoofer beforehand and calculate the dimensions. Here, the appropriate size is particularly important for the sound of the speaker. The box represents a closed, airtight housing.
  1. First you need to think about what sound you want in the end.
  2. Next is the determination of the Qtc necessary. For example, if you listen more to techno or house, a Qtc of over 0.9 (also called Chebycheff characteristic) is worthwhile.
  3. On the other hand, if you want to play a wider range of music, rather choose a value between 0.7 and 0.9. Inform yourself in advance about the appropriate value. Note, however, that you should not exceed a value of 1.2.
  4. To calculate the cabinet volume you need, you can use the formula Vb = Vas / ((Qtc²/Qts²) - 1).
