Monster Hunter World: Research explained - this is what it's for

The story of Monster Hunter World is not just about hunting monsters, but also learning as much as possible about them. This requires research, and we explain what the system looks like.

On the trail: research is not unimportant in Monster Hunter World.

The more often you go hunting, the more you know about the monsters. This is reflected in research points.

Monster Hunter World: How research works in Iceborne

In the main game Monster Hunter World you can bring the research level for each monster to level 9, since Iceborne the limit of many monsters is also 4 or 7:
  • This depends on the monster: Up to level 4 it goes for monsters of which there is only a master rank version, such as Vaal Hazak, Glavenus or Tigrex. Level 7 is the limit for monsters that exist in high rank and master rank (e.g. Lunastra, Lavasioth, Uragaan).
  • You increase the level by fighting a monster, breaking its parts, collecting items and searching for tracks. The latter is a good method if you want to avoid the fight.
  • Have you brought all the monsters to the highest research level, you get a trophy for it.
  • The collected research points are again a currency in the game. It exists in parallel with Zennys and is used for a wide variety of purchases.
  • When you collect research points, the level of fireflies also increases incidentally, which makes it easier to find the monster in the area.
Specially because of the trophy, many players sooner or later begin to specifically push the research. Fortunately, this is quite fast and can also be quite relaxed thanks to tracking.
