Mac: Manage storage - here's how
Your Mac has a variety of ways you can save storage space. In addition to clouds and built-in tools, it's a particularly good way to manage capacity so you always have the best overview of your storage space.
How to manage your storage space on Mac
Use the tools and cloud services on Mac, then storage space problems should be a thing of the past. Nevertheless, it should be checked from time to time whether these also work to the extent and whether there is enough memory.- To do this, first go to the Apple menu under "About this Mac" on "Memory".
- Now a bar appears on which is displayed how much memory is occupied by which type of file.
- Then click on "Manage" to open the "Memory Management".
- There you will be shown some recommendations on how to optimize your storage space.
- So, for example, select the option "Save to iCloud" to save files from the storage locations "Desktop" and "Documents" as well as photos and messages there.
- Additional storage optimization takes place when you select the option "Optimization". For example, already viewed movies and series are automatically removed from your Mac and do not occupy unnecessary storage capacity.
- Also select to automatically empty the Recycle Bin at a regular interval.
- The "Reduce Chaos" feature identifies both large files and files that are no longer needed. To do this, select "Check files" and select in the left bar by file type. Delete all that is no longer of further use to you.
