Windows 10 in XP Mode - how to use the feature

Most newer programs usually run without problems on your Windows 10 system. However, if you want to use software that has not received updates for a long time or certain hardware, then this is often only possible with Windows XP. For this you can then use Windows 10 in XP Mode.

How to use Windows 10 in XP Mode

If you want to use certain programs that you can only use on Windows XP, then it is possible to use XP Mode on your Windows 10 system. You can use this with VirtualBox on your PC.

1. First download the installation file of Windows XP Mode from the Microsoft website.
2. Once the file has been downloaded, unpack it with a program of your choice. This is possible, for example, with "WinRAR".
3. Under "Source" you will now find the file "xpm". This you must also unpack.
4. Here you will find the file "VirtualXPVHD", which you rename to "VirtualXP.vhd".
5. Now install VirtualBox and create a virtual machine.
6. During this process, you must select a hard disk under "Disk".
7. Klicken Sie auf den Ordner und wählen Sie anschließend die „VirtualXP.vhd“-Datei aus.
8. Sobald Sie die virtuelle Maschine erstellt haben, wählen Sie diese aus und klicken Sie im oberen Menü auf „Starten“.
9. Anschließend wird Windows XP gestartet und Sie können es wie gewünscht nutzen.
