If you want to make sure that your personal notes on iPhone are protected from access by others, you can lock your notes. To do this, you must first set a password that must be entered in order to open a protected note.

iPhone: Secure your notes with a password

To protect your notes, you have several options. In addition to Face ID and Touch ID, you can also secure your notes with a password. You can set the password in the settings or in the notes app. To do this, proceed as follows:
  1. Navigate to "Settings" > "Notes" and tap "Password".
  2. Now enter the desired password and also set up a mnemonic for your password.
  3. Finally tap on "Done".

How to lock a note

  1. First open a note you want to secure.
  2. Tap the menu icon.
  3. Then go to "Lock Note"
  4. Enter the password and create a mnemonic.
  5. Confirm by clicking "Done"

How to view backed up notes on iPhone

If you want to open a previously backed up note, you will need your password. Select the note you want to view by tapping on it and click "View Note". Now enter your password. The note will stay open for several minutes, even if you switch to other notes in the meantime. As soon as you exit the notes app or your device goes into standby mode, in order to view the note again, you will have to enter your password again.
